Julia, whose name in Turkey is Togra, has been known since 2007. Inspectors from the marine unit of the Nature and Parks Authority scan the beaches to see if it appears in order to protect it.
The monk seal is one of the rarest mammals in the world and is endangered. Recently, the population of the species has begun to recover in our region, probably due to the regional conservation project of the Mediterranean monk seal in the Eastern Mediterranean, led by the IUCN and funded by the Monk Seal Alliance.
