The number of registered crimes in Germany has increased by 5.5 percent to almost six million. There was a significant increase in violent crimes in particular; the number of crimes reached 215,000 cases, the highest level in 15 years.

SPD politician Sebastian Fiedler is calling for prohibited zones - and is already providing skeptics with a counter-argument. “We have had this suspicion for a long time,” says the SPD’s police policy spokesman, Sebastian FIEDler, in an interview with IPPEN. ‘If someone already has a knife with them, then they are quickly ready to use it,’ says Fiedlers’ former criminal police officer, Jochen Kopelke, head of the police union (GdP) “The use of knives must be clearly and officially banned,“ says Kopelk, who is also the leader of the GdP. ” Nobody needs to defend themselves with a knife on our streets.”
