Kate Middleton's parents Carole and Mike have long since earned royal titles, says an expert. Carole has long since taken on a mother role for Prince William, explains Richard Eden.

The grandparents are not only beloved confidants for Prince George (10), Princess Charlotte (8), and Prince Louis (5), but they are invaluable to Kate in this predicament and also to Prince William, to continue fulfilling his royal duties as heir to the throne - while his father also battles illness. The Princess of Wales in particular would have been happy to have her mother and father by her side at Anmer Hall, her retreat and property on the Sandringham Estate, as Eden claims to have heard. It was also no coincidence that the two women were in Lambrook in Berkshire, 15 minutes from Adelaide Cottage, Wales' family home in Windsor, and just half an hour's drive from Bucklebury, where the Middletons live. The two women also helped run the school while the princess was recovering.
