Crisis year 2023 will cause crime to increase in Hesse. High inflation, catch-up effects from the corona pandemic and the increase in everyday mobility are also causing crime to rise.
In Hesse, the number of crimes rose by 28,933 last year compared to 2022, an increase of 7.8 percent to 397,512. Despite a “higher volume of cases”, the clearance rate in 2023 was 63.2 percent, roughly at the “high level of the previous year” of 63.7 percent.
