At the end of 2023, 1,153 billion euros were placed in Italians' current accounts. In one year the total balance fell by 43 billion, 3.6%.

Lombardy has the liquidity record with 235 billion (20% of the total), while the South is penalized both in terms of liquidity and returns. With 5,000 euros in the bank account you earn 18.2 euros a year in Trento and Bolzano, 15 euros in Florence, 13 euros in Rome, 11 euros in Milan and Perugia. The same sum, however, yields just 6.5 euros in Naples, 7 euros in Trieste, 8 euros in Catanzaro, Potenza, Genoa and Aosta. The banks in Ancona and Cagliari insure 10 euros, half a euro more than Bari, Bologna, Campobasso and Palermo. At 9 euros round you can find Venice and Pescara. The interest charged by banks on current accounts are not all the same in the country.
