Joe Biden will return to the White House on Sunday after the G7 summit in Japan to devote himself to tough discussions on public debt. He will not visit Australia and Papua New Guinea as planned in the coming days.

The US president has been engaged for several months in intense diplomatic activity with the leaders of the Asia-Pacific region, in order to strengthen American alliances in the face of the rise of China. He still intends to travel to Japan on Wednesday for the G 7 summit where he will meet with the Leaders of the Quad.
