Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States indicated on Tuesday April 9 that they “consider cooperating” with Japan within the framework of the alliance. Aukus members stressed in a statement that Japan's “bilateral defense strengths and partnerships’ with the countries in question make it a natural partner.

The statement was published before a meeting between the first Japanese Minister Fumio Kishida and US President Joe Biden. The two leaders are expected to discuss Japan's future within the alliance in terms of "advanced capabilities"
