World lost an area of virgin forest equivalent to 10 football fields per minute in 2023. This represents sending the equivalent of 2.4 billion tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.

The reduction of primary rainforest in Brazil fell 36% last year, reaching its lowest level since 2015. In Colombia, the reduction of forest area experienced a drop of 49%, a trend that began after the election of Gustavo Petro to the presidency. The world is not on track to meet the commitments made at COP26 in 2021, when more than 140 leaders pledged to halt deforestation by 2030.
