Despite a rainy winter in France, the Pyrénées-Orientales hit by historic drought. The plain around Perpignan, with less water than the mountains, experienced its two driest years.

It received only 305 mm of rain in 2022 and only 245 mm in 2023 - like in Tunis -, less than half of the 571 mm that fell on average between 1991 and 2020. “The state of resources at the start of 2024 is more worrying than in January 2023,” underlines the prefecture.
