Despite help from the West: Ukraine's arms industry is lagging behind. Russia produces around three times as much ammunition as the EU and EU combined.

Russia is expected to produce around 250,000 pieces of artillery ammunition per month, or 3 million units per year. The USA and Europe together produce around 12 million units of ammunition per year, or 1.5 million units a year. Ukraine must expand its arms industry more if the country wants to become less dependent on Western arms supplies. Experts are sure this will not be possible in the foreseeable future.
