A national tribute to Robert Badinter is paid this Wednesday at Place Vendôme in Paris, at the Ministry of Justice. The former Minister of Justice and President of the Constitutional Council remains remembered as the man who brought about the abolition of the death penalty in 1981.

Emmanuel Macron, who hailed “a figure of the century”, will give a speech in which he will express himself on a possible entry of the lawyer into the Pantheon. The philosopher Elisabeth Badinter, his widow, expressed her wish that the elected representatives of the National Rally and La France insoumise would not attend.
