In February of this year, according to the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees, the number of applications fell to 19,494 refugees, the lowest level since September 2022. The German Association of Cities and Municipalities, André Berghegger, also explained that they would have “wanted further clear steps to sustainably relieve the burden on municipalities”
