Heat pumps are a key technology in the energy transition in Germany. There are distance rules for the installation, which are not always easy to implement.

The fact that each federal state has its own regulation is causing criticism. In Hamburg, the distance between building-like structures and neighbours must be 2.50 metres, while in Berlin or Schleswig-Holstein it must be three metres.
