Chocolate appeared in Bordeaux on November 28, 1615, thanks to the wedding of King Louis XIII who married Anne of Austria in Saint-André Cathedral. The Infanta of Spain, where the luxurious drink was already consumed by the nobles, thus introduced it to the Court of France.

From the 18th century, as chocolate consumption intensified towards the end of the reign of the Sun King, the port received cocoa beans which it then spread throughout Europe. It was not until the 19th century and the invention of the chocolate bar that this link with the city was strengthened.
