A report by the Knesset Research Center shows that out of nearly 6,000 cases of obstruction of a police officer, only 17% were indicted. The study's initiator, MK Eliyahu Revivo: "Increase the punishment for interfering with police officers." On the other hand, the chairman of the police committee of the Bar Association claims: "The police taint citizens with criminal records and deal with trifles" Only 0.8 percent of those convicted, 55 cases in total, were sentenced to prison or service offenses.
