A sandstorm left one dead and five injured in Egypt on Thursday, June 1 after the fall of a billboard on a traffic lane. In the capital of more than 20 million people, the sky suddenly darkened when a sandstorm carrying huge orange scrolls hit the sprawling city.

Two Red Sea ports along the Suez Canal were also closed on Thursday with wind gusts reaching more than 50 km per hour and waves more than four meters. Egypt's health ministry has advised residents to wear masks and limit their outings.
