The Paris Agreement establishes as a general objective that the increase in global temperature with respect to the pre-industrial average (1850-1900) remains between 1.5 and two Celsius degrees. The global average temperature of the last 12 months (from February 2023 to January 2024) has already been 1.52 degrees above that pre- industrial average.
