El Alto is a city of Aymara, indigenous, “Indian” majority. It is best known outside of Bolivia for the colorful, futuristic buildings called ‘cholets’ The city is much more than a simple economic phenomenon.

It has become the unofficial capital of Bolivia in just four decades. The city has 60,000 companies, streets of intense life where more than three million dollars are traded daily and chroniclers on the hunt for details that explain what the hell is happening in their city.
