Elephant cells reprogrammed, first step towards the mammoth. Researchers hope to study the genetic modifications necessary to bring the characteristics of the mammoth back to life.

The result has not yet been published in a scientific journal, but should soon appear on the online platform bioRxiv, where studies that have yet been peer-reviewed are shared. The researchers also hypothesize using the reprogramed stem cells to create an artificial uterus with which to attempt in vitro gestation, so as not to have to exploit the natural reproduction of threatened animals.
