The owner of automaker Tesla and aerospace company SpaceX made the announcement Thursday in a message posted in a tweet that did not include his name. Musk bought Twitter in October last year for $44 billion after a month-long fight with the previous administration over the company's price and financial health.

He has made substantial changes to the platform in the six months since taking over, reinstating the accounts of users who had been suspended, including former President Donald Trump. Twitter has never had a female CEO since its founding in 2006.
