Austrian Social Democrats have suffered an unprecedented glitch in the election for party leader. During the counting, the votes were swapped, said the head of the electoral commission.

Hans Peter Doskozil received 280 votes, but Andreas Babler received 317 votes. The error was discovered by chance during a recount on Monday. The new party leader is now Babler, currently mayor of the small town of Traiskirchen south of Vienna. The previous SPÖ leader was no longer running.
