A German company has received the first certificate to sell biogenic hydrogen. Green hydrogen is considered an essential key to the energy transition.

60 to 70 percent of the manure and manure reserves in Germany are currently still unused. The biohydrogen will then be sold, for example, to logistics companies or bus companies that need the fuel to decarbonize their fleet. The Federal Ministry of Transport provides the funding program “Investments in renewable fuels” for the production of renewable fuels. The federal government has not yet released the money that is needed to ramp up the market for bio-hydrogen in Germany, but says that it will be funded in the future. The company hopes to have the hydrogen filling system approved by TÜV by the summer of this year, and to be fully operational by the end of the year. It is not realistic or even necessarily desirable at the moment to convert the entire German bus service to bio-Hydrogen, says managing director of BtX energy GmbH.
