Environmental toxins in the holiday paradise: Pesticide contamination has been proven as far away as the mountains of South Tyrol. Nearly 30 pesticides, including insecticides, fungicides and herbicides, were found in half of the insecticide samples.
Pesticides also have been detected at higher altitudes. Researchers report that the plant protection pesticides in Vinschgau are not found in the surrounding area. Overall pesticides would decrease at higheritudes and at greater distances from the growing areas, but pesticides were detected in areas with hardly any apple cultivation.
