Opposition leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu was still considered to have a good chance of victory in the first round of voting. The result of the election is expected on the evening of 28 May. Then it will be clear whether Erdoğan, who has been in power for 20 years - first as prime minister, will secure another term in office.
