Erdogan was born on February 26, 1954, in Istanbul. He has ruled Turkey for more than 20 years.
He is expected to win re-election on May 14. The election will be the first since a coup attempt in July of last year. The vote will be held on the same day as the presidential elections. The winner will be announced on May 17. The second election will take place on May 25. The third and final election will occur on May 26. The fourth and final elections will be on May 27.
