Erdogan's party suffers a debacle in the Turkish municipal elections. The social democrats of the CHP will govern the five most populated cities in the country and win elections for the first time since 1977.

It has been decades since Turkey's electoral map has been so dyed red, the color of theCHP. More hurt by competition on the right with the Islamist party YRP, founded by Erdogan's political mentor, Fatih Erbakan. Around 77% of voters went to the polls, eight points less than the previous municipal meeting.
