Norway plans to increase its defense budget by 83% by 2036. Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre justified this increase by the proximity of a neighboring country.

Norway will notably order five new frigates, at least a fifth submarine, up to 28 ships of various sizes, maritime surveillance drones, deep strike assets and helicopters. The number of army brigades will be increased from one to three, that of Nasams-type anti-aircraft systems doubled from four to eight.
