Survey of 2,300 French men and women, aged 18 to 25, on their relationship to the military universe. One in two is attentive to ‘war’ and one in two are ready to enlist in the event of war.

62% of respondents are in favor of the restoration of compulsory military service. 77% of young people say they are worried about the economic consequences that this conflict could have in France, and 73% of them say they fear that it will spill beyond Ukraine. “For this generation, we have moved away from deterrence, and we can come to a nuclear conflict,” says Anne Muxel, sociologist at Sciences Po, the research center for political science and public policy at the French Ministry of the Armed Forces (IRESEM) The survey was carried out between June and July 2023, and questioned 2, 300 French men, women and children. The results were published in the journal “Military Affairs” on Friday.
