Fentanyl floods US while scanners that can detect it at the border sit in warehouses. The money to implement cutting-edge technology that allows border agents to detect drugs in vehicles crossing from Mexico was part of the immigration package blocked by congressional Republicans.

The new technology, known as non-intrusive inspection (NII), allows CBP to x-ray a percentage of cars and trucks beneath U-shaped stations that look like car washes. Drivers do not have to get out of their vehicles to clear the checkpoint, meaning traffic can continue to flow through border checkpoints.
