The deadly fighting, now in its 8th week, has forced Sudanese Red Crescent volunteers to bury 180 unidentified bodies: 102 in southern Khartoum and 78 in Darfur. The conflict has already claimed the lives of more than 1,800 people and displaced more than one and a half million people and refugees.

Despite the announcement of US sanctions against the army and paramilitaries, heavy weapons fighting continues to claim lives every day, looting continues and the number of displaced people continues to rise.
