Aßlingen's finances are not in good shape, the budget situation is deteriorating from year to year. At the end of 2024, the municipality expects to be in the red again.

The Aßlingers plan to have a debt of just over 19 million euros by 2027. The additional income they need to get out of the red will include an increase in property and trade taxes. The debt advisor, whom the municipality wants to bring on board based on the recommendation of the legal supervisory authority in the district office, has no influence on the planned budget for the current year. The increase was not a decision of his own free will, emphasizes his party colleague Ernst Sporer-Fischbacher. It is “one of the obligatory tasks of a community” to keep its fire brigade operational - as is the renovation of the primary and middle schools or afternoon care, according to the mayor Hans Fent. As soon as the community is doing better again, we could talk about lowering the tax rates again, the mayor explained.
