Flaco, the Central Park Zoo owl, dies a year after his habitat was vandalized and he escaped. The owl crashed into a building on the Upper West Side in Manhattan, not far from Central Park.

Whoever did it is "responsible for its death," the zoo said. "People in New York especially connect with him because of his resilience," a bird watcher said in early February. "We are still hopeful that the NYPD, which is investigating the vandalism, will eventually make an arrest," a zoo spokesman said.
