Former British Prime Minister Theresa May leaves politics after 27 years of parliamentary life. She said she will resign her seat as a Tory MP before the next election.

She will focus on championing causes "close to her heart", such as the fight against modern slavery. May's decision to leave Westminster adds to an exodus in which more than 60 Conservative MPs have said they will not fight for their seats in the next general election. High-profile MPs who have said that they will leave include former cabinet ministers Ben Wallace, Sajid Javid, Dominic Raab and Kwasi Kwarteng.
