Net immigration reached more than 500,000 entries in 2021-2022. It is expected to exceed 700,000 this year – triple what it was five years ago.
To which must be added a significant increase in illegal immigration, calculated in particular from the crossings of the Channel which represent more than 45,000 people in 2022, against 28,000 in 2021. This situation is paradoxical. Seven years ago, the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union. The popular mandate given to the government on the migration issue by the 2016 referendum could not be clearer.
