The Prime Minister of France says he is in favor of “reopening the construction site’ of unemployment insurance. “It is obviously a priority to reduce our deficits, to clean up our accounts for future generations,” he said.
The French want a social model that encourages the return to employment, he added. The Prime Minister also wants to increase the length of the compensation period, which has been reduced from 24 months to 18 months in the past. He said: “The social partners are in negotiations until the end of March. So we will take this further in the coming weeks.”
