Defense Minister Yoav Galant told American Defense Minister Lloyd Austin that Israel had no choice but to respond to the unprecedented missile and UAV attack that Iran launched against Israel over the weekend. Austin told Gallant that everything must be done to prevent further escalation in the region.
The War Cabinet convened once more today to discuss the Israeli response to the Iranian attack. The cabinet meeting that took place yesterday ended without a decision. The Pentagon and the Defense Department said one of the topics discussed by Austin and Gallant was efforts to form an international and regional coalition against Iran. The Defense Minister's office and the Pentagon refused to comment on the matter. The Israeli military is on high alert against additional threats, the IDF spokesman said. The U.S. State Department said that although the US is not interested in escalation, it will continue to take all necessary steps to protect Israel and US forces in the area.
