George Santos says he will suspend his Republican congressional campaign and run as an independent. The former official cited “today's disgraceful performance in the Lower House” by the Republicans as a reason to switch to an independent candidacy.

To appear on the ballot, Santos will have to collect and submit 3,500 signatures from voters in that district in New York. The Republican-led House of Representatives voted early Friday to approve a $1.2 trillion spending bill hours before the government shutdown deadline.
