South Ossetia, a breakaway region of Georgia, has discussed with Moscow its possible integration into Russia. “We are discussing all these issues in close coordination with Russia, taking into account our bilateral relations and treaties,” said Alan Alborov, speaker of the South Ossetian parliament.

The region has been autonomous since 1991 but militarily occupied by Russia since the 2008 war. The president of the parliament of this pro-Russian region spoke of “close coordination” with Moscow.
