Georgia's ruling party announced Wednesday it would reintroduce a bill similar to Russia's "foreign agents" legislation. The bill was perceived by critics of power as a tool of intimidation and thousands of people took to the streets to denounce it in March 2023.

Georgia has had the ambition for years to deepen its relations with the West, but the ruling party is accused of wanting to bring this former Soviet republic closer to Russia. "We are deeply concerned about the introduction in the Georgian legislature of legislation based on last year's'foreign agents' bill," said State Department spokesman Matthew Miller.
