Germany threatens to overturn new legislation on the automobile sector. This requires manufacturers of European heavy goods vehicles weighing more than 7.5 tonnes to become almost carbon neutral by 2040.

Berlin requested and obtained exemptions for synthetic fuels. According to the text finally validated by the Twenty-Seven, these new trucks placed on the market must gradually have reduced CO2 emissions by 45% in 2030, 65% in 2035 and 90% in2040 compared to 2019. The German government has appealed to the European Commission to develop a system allowing the registration of trucks running on so-called “neutral” fuels.
