Transport ministers announced at the beginning of the year that the price for the German ticket will remain at 49 euros. The states want to extend it until 2036, but the federal government is blocking it.

A possible background is that the traffic light coalition is blocking a change in the law that is important for the future of the Deutschlandticket. The federal and state governments each cover half of the costs of the ticket. They are currently contributing 1.5 billion euros each to the financing. The future secured until 2036? That would be almost overwhelming news for commuters. Even if regular price increases are apparently planned at the same time. Is the state plan realistic? Is the plan to use financial resources in 2024 that were not used in the previous year realistic? The regionalization law would have to be changed for this to happen. This law regulates local transport. It is not clear whether the federal states are taking an unusually offensive position. The topic appears again on the agenda of the transport ministers' conference taking place these days.
