Giant fish weighing tons washed up on an Italian holiday beach in Venice. Fire department posts photo of huge deep-sea fish carcass.

The largest sunfish ever recorded, discovered off the Azores, weighed a staggering 2.7 tonnes - more than double the specimen at the Lido. At around a thousand kilograms, this is almost lightweight in comparison. The giant animal will be transported from the Lado di Venezia by a special company and made available to scientists at the University of Padua.
