Giant fish weighing tons washed up on an Italian holiday beach in Venice. The largest sunfish ever recorded, discovered off the Azores, weighed a staggering 2.7 tonnes - more than double the specimen at the Lido di Venezia.

Sunfish occasionally get lost in the North and Baltic Seas and can reach the Gulf Stream through the North Sea and the Baltic Seas. For Venice, however, the water masses are becoming increasingly dangerous. The city recently had to protect itself from rising water levels with flood protection gates.
