More e-bikes were built than bikes without an electric drive last year. The more expensive the bike, the greater the interest of thieves.
Last year, the number of bicycle thefts nationwide rose by 3.44 percent or 1,004 cases to 30,208. The total damage caused by bicycle thefts was around 32 million euros last year - in 2019 it was only around 16.5 million euros. In the Hanover region alone, the damage was around 5.3 million euros in 2023 after around 2.7 million in 2019.
