More than one in five children in Germany live in poverty. The poverty rate for single mothers and fathers is as high as 43.2 percent.

Basic child protection is needed. At least Lisa Paus, the Green Party's family minister, thinks so. Paus was confident that an agreement could be reached in parliament. But at the personnel point, a heated debate broke out within the traffic light coalition. The FDP had described Paus' plans as “absurd” and called for a complete revision of the current draft law. The Green Party leader Ricarda Lang reacted decisively to Paus’ interview and announced that there would be “no 5,000 new jobs” “I am sure that the total number of jobs can still be reduced through synergy effects and consistent digitalization,” she told the dpa news agency. A lot is now set to change in their communication strategy. Within the party, their lack of appeal to citizens' emotions was criticized. BasicChild security should, however, be borne by the entire party.
