Volkswagen is planning affordable electric cars in the small car segment. Before the VW ID.2 appears, the counterpart of a subsidiary brand will apparently be launched.

Volkswagen has a brand that has already launched an electric car in this segment to the public earlier: CUPRA. Both models are based on a modified architecture of Volkswagen's MEB modular system. The production of all models takes place in the modernized factory in Martorell near Barcelona. The country will become the company-wide “hub for e-mobility in Europe” with a total investment of ten billion euros. According to the information, this is the largest investment in the country's industrial history. It will take almost two years until a new electric VW car in the 20,000 euro range is available again after the VW e-Up. The ID. 2 then competes with brands such as: B. Opel Corsa-E, Peugeot e-208, Fiat 500 Elektro or the rebirth of a Renault classic.
