The Macronists will be the first to make this election an opportunity to block Marine Le Pen in her Elysian march. Their campaign will be less a plea for an attractive Union - the reasons to applaud Ursula von der Leyden's record will, it is true, be very tenuous - than a warning against the "far right" Renaissance's slogan will be simple: let's not leave the RN in the lead.
In other words: the only useful anti-Le Pen vote is us. Classic. And potentially effective if not original.
