Boris Pistorius (SPD) took over as Federal Minister of Defense in January of this year. He is now also struggling with the legacy of his predecessors.

The opposition criticises the government for having slept through the first year of the "turning point" in Ukraine. Pistorius expects to be able to remedy the equipment deficiencies in the Bundeswehr "in this decade," as he said in early April. The acceleration of procurement is of "paramount importance," Pistorius says.
