"This can be interpreted as a possible forecast of the worst possible scenario," warns the meteorological service. "The last time the riverbed was this high in the area was in 2017 or 2018," a forecaster says.
The stretch between the Texas border cities of Del Rio and Laredo is the most worrisome, he says. "We want our community and migrants to be aware that they may find themselves in danger attempting to cross the river or canals," El Paso Water says.
