Historic heat record in Africa with nearly 50°C in Mali. It was precisely 48.5°C on Wednesday in Kayes, in western Mali.

The previous hottest point was 48.3°C and dated from 2003. North Africa experiences temperatures often 15°C to 20°C higher than the seasonal averages. The thermometer clearly exceeds 40°C, even crossing the 45°C mark. In recent weeks, across the continent, tens of thousands of temperature records have already been broken.
